The Malthouse

The Malthouse is a house that features an 18th-century refronting of an early 17th-century structure. It is built from rubble stone and has a stone-tiled roof with coped gables and end wall stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a five-window range consisting of 2-light flush cyma-moulded mullion windows that have been renewed with leaded lights. There is a drip course over both floors and flush quoins. The central door is set in a cyma-moulded flush surround and is located within a later gabled porch. Additionally, there is one gabled dormer and a single-storey west end addition that includes an end wall stack, as well as a rear lean-to.

Inside, the Malthouse features moulded stone Tudor-arched fireplaces at each end, which have carved stops; the left end fireplace includes a motif from the stops that is repeated as two small carved bosses on the lintel. The building also has heavy chamfered and stopped centre beams, and a cambered timber lintel above the kitchen's west end fireplace. On the first floor, there is a small 18th-century stone fireplace and a heavy beam at the east end, while the west end has an 18th-century fireplace and a fielded panelled cupboard.
