Description
This is a house in a terrace, with a former malthouse at the rear converted to a separate dwelling, number 32A. The house has a likely 16th-century origin, with alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of rubble stone walls with a stone slate roof, and features brick stacks at the left end and near the centre, and a stone stack at the right end. The building is one storey and has an attic. A ledged door is set under a four-centred arch, and above this is a medieval carved quatrefoil plaque. To the right of the door is a two-light shop window. To the left of the door are two casements with lead lights, each set under a relieving arch. The attic has three pent-roofed dormers; two have lead lights, and one has casements with glazing bars. A fine, late medieval stone fireplace is located in the central ground floor room, with a lintol featuring quatrefoil panels and a moulded cornice, carried on circular shafts with moulded capitals. Part of the original rear wall is timber-framed, now covered by a later outshut. A large former malthouse stands at the rear, of stone construction with a stone slate roof.
