Description
Nos. 17 and 19 on West Street are a pair of cottages that were likely originally one house, dating from the 17th century. They feature rubble stone walls and a stone slate roof. The left end has a stone stack, while No. 19 has a brick stack to the right of its door and another directly above the door. The cottages are one storey with attics.
No. 17 has a ledged door, a ground floor with one casement window with glazing bars and one horizontally sliding sash window also with horizontal glazing bars. The attic includes two gabled dormers, one with casements and the other with horizontally sliding sashes, both featuring glazing bars.
No. 19 has a stable door and one ground floor casement window with glazing bars. Its attic has one gabled dormer with casements that include a central horizontal bar. There is a rear wing built in matching materials, which has a stone recording of restoration work completed in 1957. The interior of No. 19 is not accessible, but according to the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, it contains a 17th-century fireplace.
