Description
The former lock-up, also known as 'The Blind House', is located immediately east of Town Bridge on the southeast side. It was originally dated to 1757 and has been restored after being damaged during riots in 1826 and by a bomb blast in 1942. This single-storey building is constructed from square stone blocks and features stepped coping leading to a square dome topped with a ball finial. There is a panel of rusticated stone facing the road, and an open gabled stone porch that includes a stout plank door, which was formerly iron-clad and studded with nails.
