Description

The Kitchener’s Arms is an early 18th-century public house. Formerly known as the "King of Prussia," possibly reflecting its connection to the Seven Years’ War, the building may originally have comprised more than one dwelling. It is a three-story structure with a projecting plinth and a moulded string course above the ground and first-floor windows. A moulded eaves cornice tops the building, leading to a tented roof covered with double-roman tiles and a crested ridge. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with brackets supporting the cills; the ground-floor windows have wooden frames. The upper floors feature a pattern of three coupled windows alternating with single windows. The ground floor follows a similar pattern, with three coupled windows alternating with doorways. The left and central doors are six-panel doors with glazed upper panels, while the right-hand door is four-panel. The central door is framed by a stone architrave incorporating console brackets supporting a cornice and segmental pediment. The other outer doors have architraves with flat moulded stone heads, lined with a string, and supported on stone scroll brackets. The first-floor window in the third bay from the right (above the central door) has a plain surround with a cornice and pediment on console brackets. The return side facing Wicker Hill has a similar design, including a gable and a single window. The glazing of the ground-floor windows has been altered. A gable lit attic is present to the north. A single-story extension has been added to the west, featuring a modern bay on the south side. Three brick chimneys are located at the rear, with a gable over the central chimney.
