Description
No 8 Wicker Hill is a late 18th-century building that stands two storeys tall and is constructed of ashlar stone. It features a stone string at the first-floor cill level, which is mitred over three narrow pilasters that extend the full height of the building. The structure has a moulded cornice and a panelled parapet with plain coping, topped by a hipped pantile roof. The front facing Wicker Hill includes four windows with glazing bar sashes and a door to the right that has a plain stone surround and cornice. To the left, there is a six-panel door in a lean-to extension, also with a cornice. The return front, which faces uphill and across from No 73 (or 74) Fore Street, features three windows on the first floor and one large four-light window with a cornice above it on the ground floor. No 8, along with the premises occupied by K.J. Lester to the southwest, forms an outstanding group with Nos 65 to 68 (consecutive), Nos 70 to 73 (consecutive), the railings and gates to Nos 68 and 70, the dwarf stone wall to No 72, No 64 (Lloyds Bank), and the Ushers Brewery Corner Block on Fore Street.
