Description

FORE STREET 1. 5411 (South East Side) Building at rear of No 2 ST 8558 4/236 II

  1. Late C17/early C18 weavers' premises. 4 storeys high, quarter hipped gable end and external stack just visible from Fore Street. English bond brick work with some timber (eg in north gable) 3 ranges of sash windows to east with thick glazing bars, single hung on 2nd floor, and with wide raised stone surrounds with beaded inner edges. 3 gabled half dormers with hipped roofs having very wide weaver-type windows with wood surrounds, lower parts blocked. West front rendered and partly obscured by building at rear of No 1 (qv). Extension to south of rubble: 2 storeys high with 3 ranges of windows having brick surrounds to glazing bar sashes and modern cement double roman tile roofs. The roof partly supported on 2 sets of modest-sized raised crucks.
