Description

The building at the rear of No 2 Fore Street is a late 17th century to early 18th century weavers' premises. It stands four storeys high with a quarter hipped gable end and an external stack that is just visible from Fore Street. The structure features English bond brickwork, with some timber elements present in the north gable. On the east side, there are three ranges of sash windows that have thick glazing bars, with the second floor featuring single hung windows. These windows are framed by wide raised stone surrounds with beaded inner edges. The building also has three gabled half dormers with hipped roofs, which contain very wide weaver-type windows with wooden surrounds; the lower parts of these windows are blocked. The west front is rendered and is partly obscured by the building at the rear of No 1. There is an extension to the south that is two storeys high, constructed of rubble and featuring three ranges of windows with brick surrounds to the glazing bar sashes. This extension has modern cement double roman tile roofs and its roof is partly supported by two sets of modest-sized raised crucks.
