Description

FORE STREET 1. 5411 (North West Side) No 71 (formerly listed as No 68 (Ushers Brewery Offices)) ST 8558 4/78 29.12.50. II GV

  1. Late C18 front of 3 storeys. Ashlar with projecting plinth, 1st and 2nd floor cill bands and end pier strips. Ground floor rusticated. Simple cornice, balustered parapet with moulded coping and hipped slate roof with set back chimneys. 3 ranges of windows grouped towards centre on 1st and 2nd floors; plate glass sashes. 4 panel central door, rectangular fanlight of interlaced diagonal pattern under much altered porch. Formerly Ionic with balustrade, now Doric with blocking course. Pitched paving to front. To rear a 2 storey later brick extension with an end bay with quadrant corner and 2 round headed windows to north with stone architraves. Another large extension also has rounded windows plus an outside chimney stack and a stone panel depicting lion rampant carrying a shield. Pitched path to pavement.

Nos 65 to 68 (consec), Nos 70 to 73 (consec), railings and gates to Nos 68 and 70, dwarf stone wall to No 72, No 64 (Lloyds Bank) and Usher's Brewery Corner Block, form an outstanding group with No 8 and premises occupied by K.J. Lestor to south west of No 8 Wicker Hill.
