Description

Two chest tombs from the early 19th century are located in the churchyard about 3 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St John the Baptist in Little Somerford. The first monument is dedicated to Mary Reynolds, featuring angle pillars, a moulded base and capstone, and two fielded plaques on each side. It bears inscriptions for Mary (who died in 1805) and John Reynolds (who died in 1813). The second monument is also for Mary Reynolds, designed with an ornate moulded base and cornice, a fluted frieze, and vase baluster angles. It has large draped plaques on each side adorned with cherub heads and floral drops, with an inscription for Mary Reynolds, who died in 1810. Both monuments are made of ashlar.
