Description

The Reynolds monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard by the west boundary wall, approximately 41 meters north of the north-west end of the Church of St. Bartholomew. This monument dates from the later 18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The north side features a draped plaque adorned with cherub heads, which are flanked by ornate fruit and flower drops. The corners of the tomb have baluster designs. On the south side, there is a fielded plaque framed with an egg-and-dart moulding and floral drops on either side. The monument is topped with a moulded cornice that has a pulvinated frieze, which is broken forward over the center. The north side bears an inscription dedicated to Sarah Reynolds, who died in 1777.
