Description

The Reynolds memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 1.2 meters north of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary in Hordley. It dates from around 1813 and is made of sandstone. The tomb is rectangular and slightly tapers at the ends, featuring a moulded capping and plinth that is supported by carved feet. The top ledger is slightly chamfered and is topped with a scalloped urn finial. There are inscription panels with fluted fans in the upper spandrels, commemorating John Reynolds, who died in 1813, as well as further inscriptions to various members of the Reynolds family on other sides, including on the top ledger.
