Description
Oak House Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with red brick infill, cladding, and a plinth, along with early to mid-18th century brick on the left gable end, and has a slate roof. The building is one storey with an attic and is apparently divided into three framed bays. The framing includes square and rectangular panels, with four panels from the cill to the wall-plate, a short straight brace to the left of center, and three square and tall rectangular panels to the right and on the right gable end, which has a collar and tie beam truss. There are 20th-century casement windows, with two on the left and two on the right of a roughly central boarded door, and one window directly below the eaves above the right window. A gabled eaves dormer is located immediately above the entrance. The house has a red brick ridge stack to the right of center and an integral end stack to the left, both of which have been rebuilt in late 19th-century brick. At the rear, there are full-length red brick and corrugated iron lean-tos. The interior could not be inspected during the resurvey in February 1987, but it was noted to have chamfered ceiling beams and joists in the ground-floor rooms.
