Description
Bridge Number 70 is a road bridge built around 1801, with some minor later alterations, located on the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, designed by William Jessop and Thomas Telford. The bridge is constructed of red brick and features a stone-coped parapet that ramps down to the ends. It has an elliptical arch with a string course and a late 20th-century oval-shaped plate numbered "70" on the east side.
This section of the Ellesmere Canal was completed around 1801. The Ellesmere Canal Company merged with the Chester Canal Company in 1813 and became part of the Shropshire Union in 1846. The bridge was previously listed twice under entry 1367399, which was removed from the list on 21 November 2016. This entry underwent a minor amendment on the same date.
