Description
The Tomb of Thomas Reynolds, who died in 1867, is located in Arnos Vale Cemetery. It is made of marble with a base of Pennant stone. The tomb features a tall, octagonal shaft that is partially covered by ivy, standing on an octagonal pedestal with a moulded base and cornice. Each face of the pedestal has a console that runs the full height, creating an appearance reminiscent of a ship's capstan. This design may reflect Reynolds' possible shipping connections, as he was from Bristol. The architectural detailing is inspired by the Italianate villa style, similar to the work of Henry Goodridge and James Wilson in Bath. This memorial is noted for its unique architectural quality.
