BATH ROAD Tomb of Clark in Arnos Vale Cemetery

GV II

Tomb of Susannah Clark (d.1837) Signed Tyley, Bristol. A Neoclassical memorial in marble, comprising a square plinth placed over a stepped base with a moulded cap; on top of the plinth is a part-draped urn. HISTORY: the monument commemorates the first wife (d.1837) and Jane, the second wife (d.1845) of Henry Clark, surgeon of Cotham (d.1861). Prominently located among a good group of monuments, this is a fine example of a relatively common sort of Neoclassical tomb but which is exceptionally well executed, with crisp, austere masonry.
