Description
The farm buildings at Upper Chicksgrove Farm, dated 1833, are located east of Quarry Farmhouse. They were constructed for the Wyndhams of Dinton and are built from dressed limestone with Welsh slate roofs featuring coped verges. The layout is E-shaped, enclosing two yards.
To the north, there is a two-storey cowshed built on a bank, which has six segmental-headed doorways and small square vents on the south side, while the north side features square and segmental-headed doorways for the upper floor, along with segmental-headed loft doors at the gable ends. The east range includes open-fronted shelter sheds facing the north yard, with elliptical-arched openings supported by square stone piers. A barn projects to the west from the east range and has large elliptical openings on both the north and south sides.
In the south yard, there is a large barn on the east side with central elliptical-headed openings on both the east and west sides, flanked by narrow loopholes. The south combination range of stables, which has a granary above, features square and elliptical openings along with square vents. The apex of the west gable displays the date 1833 carved in relief. Inside the barns and stables, there are queen post trusses supporting the roofs, and the central projecting barn has a cruck-like timber in the east wall, which is likely a reset feature.
