Description
The Old Mill is a disused mill with an attached house, dating from the early 18th century. It is built of limestone ashlar and features a tiled roof with coped verges and stone and brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-plan and consists of two storeys with a four-window main range. The main entrance is a 20th-century door set in a chamfered stone surround, with a four-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement to the left, and a two-light mullioned casement along with a large elliptically-arched opening over the mill race to the right.
On the first floor, there are three-light and two two-light mullioned casements, with an additional two-light casement inserted into the loading bay on the right. The house features a two-storey wing that projects to the left, which has a glazed door in a chamfered surround and an enlarged three-light mullioned casement to the left; the first floor includes two-light and three-light mullioned casements. The left return and rear of the wing have single-light and two-light mullioned casements.
At the rear of the mill range, there is a blocked segmental arch over the mill race on the left, with two-light and three-light mullioned casements to the right on both the ground and first floors. A cart shed is attached to the right return of the mill. The interior of the mill does not retain any original machinery, as it was converted into the Tisbury electricity generating station in the 20th century, although a generator still produces power for lighting the property. The house interior features chamfered beams, an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs, and a reset egg and dart moulded door.
