Description

The farmbuildings at Ham Cross Farm date from around 1830 and were constructed for the Wyndhams. They are made of dressed limestone with hipped roofs covered in Welsh slate, arranged around a hexagonal-shaped yard. To the southwest is the farmhouse, while the northeast features a nine-bay barn. The southeast has a combination range of obtuse-angled stables and granary, and the northwest contains an obtuse-angled range of shelter sheds, along with a central pigsty.

The large barn has a central elliptical-headed cart entry on the north side with double doors, flanked by smaller elliptical-headed doorways. On the south side, there is a central cart entry surrounded by lean-to loose boxes with stable doors and lower elliptical-headed openings on either side. The barn features stone partition walls beside the center bay and has queen post roof trusses.

The stable and granary range to the southeast may have originally included cowsheds. It has a large elliptical-headed cart entry on the right, with stable doors on either side and an elliptical-headed entry with four stable doors on the left. External stone steps lead up to the granary, which has a planked door and four open loft doorways. The rear of this range is windowless and has a partitioned interior, while the barn at the south end has king post roof trusses.

The central pigsty, now used as a feed store, features two low elliptical arches and two low square openings on the east side, with the same openings blocked on the west side. There is a row of small square vents below the eaves and inserted doorways on the west side. The interior of the pigsty formerly had an upper floor and has a six-bay queen post roof with a dropped tie-beam. Overall, this is a well-preserved group of farmbuildings.
