Description
Ham Cross Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1830 for the Wyndham family of Phillips House in Dinton. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a hipped roof made of Welsh slate with deep eaves and an axial brick and stone stack. The house is arranged in an L-plan and is located on the south side of a hexagonal-shaped farmyard.
The south-east front is two storeys high with three windows. It has central double half-glazed doors with a transom light above, flanked by 12-pane sash windows on either side. The first floor also contains three 12-pane sash windows. The right side of the building has sash windows on both the ground and first floors, while the left side features French windows.
At the rear, there is a service wing with a basement that includes a three-light flush mullioned casement and planked doors. The ground floor has a six-panelled door and a large four-light flush mullioned casement leading to the kitchen, while the first floor has two-light casements and a 12-pane sash window.
Inside, the farmhouse has six-panelled doors set in moulded architraves, a staircase with a moulded wreathed handrail and 20th-century balusters, and window shutters. This farmhouse is part of a series of well-preserved early 19th-century farmhouses in the Nadder Valley, built for the Wyndham family, which also includes Quarry Farmhouse and Ley Farmhouse in Teffont.
