Description
The Compasses Inn is a late 17th-century inn that has been altered in the 20th century. It features painted dressed limestone and a thatched roof with brick stacks at the gable ends and coped verges. The building is two stories high with four windows across the front. On the ground floor to the right, there is a pantiled verandah with two planked doors and a three-light casement window. The entrance to the first floor is on the left, accessed by wooden external stairs leading to a 20th-century porch. To the left, there is a three-light leaded casement window, while to the right, there are both three-light and two-light casement windows. The left side of the building has two single-light casements on the first floor. At the rear, there is a 20th-century parallel range that partly replaces the original rear wing. Inside, the inn has chamfered beams with stepped stops and an open fireplace featuring a chamfered lintel on partly renewed brick jambs. The building is situated on a slope, with a higher ground level to the left.
