Description
The gatehouse to Roundway Hospital was built between 1849 and 1850, likely designed by T H Wyatt. It is constructed from Bath stone with ashlar dressings and features a tiled roof with overhanging bracketed eaves. The building has tall stone chimney stacks, with the one on the gable end featuring a bracketed cornice. It is designed in an L-plan and is two stories high.
The entrance façade includes two windows and a double-aspect round-arched portico located at the angle of the main range and the cross wing. The banding continues from the main house, incorporating keystones and forming coping to segmental pediments. The entrance door is a six-panelled design, with the top panels converted to lights. The windows are architraved hornless sashes, with the first floor featuring lugs and the ground floor having a pedimented design.
On the left side of the road front, there is a tripartite sash window with a round relieving arch on the ground floor, and an architraved round-arched sash window with a keystone on the first floor. The right-hand return features a canted bay window on the ground floor. Flanking the main entrance are stone walls approximately three feet high, topped with coping.
