Description
Springfield is a house dating to circa 1830. It is constructed of red brick on a projecting stone plinth, with chamfered quoins and a stone band separating the two storeys. The roof is steeply pitched, hipped, and covered in slate, with overhanging eaves. The facade has three windows on the first floor, with recessed sash windows of four panes, block sills, and flat stone arches featuring triple keystones. Two similar windows are located on the ground floor. The central door consists of six fielded panels, with a good lion head iron knocker and a semi-circular fanlight with radial glazing bars, set within a plain ashlar surround. A good stone Doric porch with columns on moulded bases extends to the front, and incorporates pilasters to the wall. It features a stepped frieze and moulded cornice, with the blocking course returning to the stone band between storeys. On the south west side, an iron scroll bracketed balcony is found on the first floor, featuring plain rails with a semi-circular indentation to the centre and standards for an awning frame, with a French window providing access to the balcony.
