Description

BURBAGE TASKER'S LANE SU 26 SW (south west side) 2/61 Pipers Roost and Corner Cottage II

Two attached cottages. C17 and early C18. Flint banded with brick central block, east bay of brick, west, earlier structure originally timber framed. Thatched roof throughout. Single storey and attic. Central 2-bay block of early C18, extended by third bay, now Corner Cottage. C17 2 1/2 bay single storey building to west containing dining room of Pipers Roost, timber framed, much replaced in brick. Framing 2 panels high with tension braces. Central 2 bays have lean-to-service rooms to rear under extension of roof. Entrance to half bay of C17 building, boarded door in heavy frame. Paned timber casement windows. Attached to rear by link, a brick outbuilding formerly a bootmaker's shop. Interior has C19 surround to central stack. Small windbraces to central truss of main block. Chamfered spine beam and early C18 door to kitchen. C17 structure has stack removed, and queen struts to single purlin roof.
