Description
6 and 8 Bristol Street is a terrace of three houses, now functioning as two, dating from the early 19th century. Number 8 was rebuilt after a fire around 1807, and the roof was raised in the mid-19th century. The left return was rebuilt in the late 20th century. The construction features coursed limestone rubble, brick, artificial stone, brick ridge and gable stacks, and a stone slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and consists of two storeys and an attic, with a window arrangement of two over one. Originally, the houses were an attached pair with central doorways, but the left-hand doorway is now blocked. The remaining two doorways have timber canopies. The windows are late 19th-century 2/2-pane horned sashes with timber lintels, and there is a single casement dormer on the left-hand side. A full-width band of brickwork was added above the first-floor windows when the front roof pitch was raised, and the left-hand return was rebuilt using artificial stone. The rear of the property features two outer two-storey blocks with hipped roofs, connected by a single-storey outshut. The interior has not been inspected.
