Description
The Primary School, built around 1860, is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features Bridgwater tile roofs. It consists of two parallel ranges that are gable-ended to the street. The building has coped gables, flush quoins, and stone mullion windows. The right gable showcases a three-light window with a hoodmould and cusped heads to the lights, along with a spherical triangular light in the apex and a thin octagonal tower attached at the southwest angle, which is designed in a chequer pattern of brick and stone. The Poynder arms are affixed to the building. A dripcourse is located at two-thirds height, and there is a band of quatrefoil panels at the top under the ashlar bellstage, which has thin lancets on each face and a lead cap. The south side wall features a gabled projection with a door on the west side. The second range to the left has a gable that is set back, an apex lancet, and a similar large three-light window with a hoodmould, although the center light is stepped up. There is a similar gabled projection on the north side with a west side door that has been converted into a window. Two stacks are positioned in the valley between the ranges. The school holds an important position in the view down Church Road.
