Description
39 and 40 Church Road are two houses, with one dating from the 18th century and the other being a mid-19th century addition. The original 18th-century house has a front made of painted brick, with painted rubble stone on the other sides, and features a thatched roof with end stacks. It is two storeys high, with two pairs of casement windows on the first floor and a triple casement window on the ground floor, along with a door that is sheltered by a timber gabled hood and a casement pair. Attached to the north end is the T-plan 19th-century addition, constructed from squared rubble stone, also with a thatched roof and a north stack. The cross wing at the north end of the original house has a two-light mullion window on each floor at the east front, both with hoodmoulds, although the ground floor window is damaged. The west end features a Tudor-arched door and a similar two-light window above it. The north wing has a similar two-light window on the ground floor of its west side.
