Description
The Iles and Lawrence monuments are located in the churchyard flanking the path to the south of the porch of the Church of St Laurence. There are two chest tombs, one from the early 19th century and the other from the mid-18th century, both made of ashlar stone.
The first, the Ann Iles monument, dates to around 1800 and features baluster angles and low relief framing around the plaques. It is designed in a rococo style, with urns at the upper angles of the south side and vases with floral sprays flanking the north plaque. The inscription on the south side notes that Ann Iles died in 1800.
The second, the Lawrence monument, dates from the mid-18th century. It includes two shield plaques on either side, scrolled decoration at the center, and angle piers, along with a moulded base and capstone. The inscription on the north side commemorates Ann Lawrence.
