Description

The Old Forge is an estate cottage and former forge, now a single house, built around 1860, possibly incorporating an earlier structure, for the Poynder estate. The building features rubble stone, some render, and decorative half-timbering, topped with Bridgwater tile eaves roofs. It is one and a half storeys high.

On the left side, the former forge has a rubble stone ground floor with a three-light mullion window to the left, a door, and a two-light mullion window to the right, all with leaded glass and hoodmoulds, along with a broad stable door. The stonework is likely from before the 19th century. The upper floor is rendered and features two gables, each with a pair of casement windows.

The slightly taller right section is a T-plan cottage with a north stack and a main gable facing south, along with large two-storey gabled projections to the west and east. The ground floors of these projections are rendered, while the upper floors are jettied and half-timbered, complete with gable finials. The west projection has canted angles on the ground floor and a two-light leaded window at the front with Tudor arches above the lights. Curved brackets support the upper floor, which has a small four-pane sash window. A Tudor arched door is located in the south side wall. The south end gable features framing on the west side, a jettied and roughcast south gable, paired sash windows on the ground floor, and a sash window above.
