Description

Ludwell Stores and Post Office is a shop and house with an attached former bakery, dating from the late 18th century, with a 19th-century shop front. The building is constructed of dressed limestone and features a concrete tiled roof with gable end brick stacks. It is two stories high and has four windows, all of which are sash windows.

On the left side of the main range, there is a well-preserved 19th-century glazed shopfront with small panes and central double half-glazed doors that include a transom light. To the right, there is a blocked sash window and a 20th-century door that leads up concrete steps. The first floor has four 16-pane flush sash windows, while the left return features 2-light casements. The rear of the building has 20th-century casements and four 20th-century gabled dormers in the attic.

Attached to the right is a two-story former bakehouse, which has a planked door and 2-light casements, along with its original tiled roof. Inside the shop, there are cast-iron columns that support the shopfront. This building is a good example of a village store that has seen little alteration over the years.
