Description

This barn, located at Grove Farm in Lower Coombe, dates to 1771, as indicated by an inscription on a tie-beam in the centre bay of the north side. The barn is constructed of dressed limestone and has a half-hipped thatched roof. It is five bays long. The east side features a central pair of double planked doors, with a planked stable door to the left. Triangular-headed ventilation slits are positioned alongside the doors, with raking buttresses on either side. The west side has a similar arrangement of double planked doors, triangular-headed ventilation slits and two raking buttresses to the right. The north gable has two triangular-headed slits, while the south gable contains a blocked opening with a shuttered window above. Inside, the roof structure comprises collar and tie-beam trusses with two tiers of butt purlins.
