Description

The Last Straw Public House is a 17th-century house, now a public house, situated at a right angle to the road in Collingbourne Ducis. The building is timber framed and brick-built, with noggings and a thatched roof. It is a single storey and attic structure, originally comprising three bays. The timber framing retains straight corner braces. The building originally had a lobby entry plan, with the central bay’s original door replaced by a centrally positioned entrance. A thatched canopy provides cover over the entrance. A twelve-paned sash window is located to the right, a paned casement window to the left, and there is a flush dormer window. A 20th-century cross wing has been added to the left, built to match the original fabric. A large brick stack is positioned between the centre and right bays. A lean-to extension is present on the south side, and the roof has a half-hipped form to the right. Inside, there is a brick open fireplace with a timber lintel, and chamfered spine beams display ogee and bar stops.
