Description

The Skeate monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 14 meters south-southwest of the tower of the Church of St. James. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of darkened ashlar stone. The tomb features a single plaque on the north side, framed by drapery and accompanied by mourning figures on each side. On the south side, there are two circular wreathed plaques. The corners of the tomb are supported by fluted angle piers with carved capitals, and the west end displays a draped urn. The inscriptions commemorate the Skeate family, with the earliest date recorded as 1804. Surrounding the monument are spearhead railings.
