Description
SHREWTON MADDINGTON STREET SU 04 SE (south side) 3/252 The Lodge to Maddington Manor GV II Lodge cottage. Late C18. Cob and irregular bond brick plinth, thatched hipped roof, octagonal and rectangular brick stacks. Square plan with projecting bays, entrance at right angles to road, facing drive to Maddington Manor (q.v.). Picturesque Gothick style. 2-storey, one-window. 9-panelled door with studs in rustic porch with tiled roof, to left is 2-storey projecting bay with one 2-light pointed casement with diamond leading, to each floor. Right return, facing main road, has one 2-storey projecting bay with one 2-light pointed casement with wooden glazing bars to ground floor, and same to first floor, with some diamond leading. Rear has door in gabled porch to left, one 2-light square-headed casement to right, first floor has two pointed casements with diamond leading, one single and one 2-light. Interior has chamfered beam with runout stops and classical fireplace. Attached to left is crinkle-crankle wall (q.v.). (Unpublished records of RCHM (England), Salisbury).
