Description
The Lodge to Maddington Manor is a lodge cottage dating from the late 18th century. It features a cob and irregular bond brick plinth, a thatched hipped roof, and both octagonal and rectangular brick chimney stacks. The building has a square plan with projecting bays, and the entrance is positioned at right angles to the road, facing the drive to Maddington Manor. Designed in a picturesque Gothick style, the lodge is two stories tall with a single window on the front.
The entrance includes a nine-panelled door with studs, set within a rustic porch that has a tiled roof. To the left, there is a two-story projecting bay with a two-light pointed casement window featuring diamond leading on both floors. The right side, facing the main road, also has a two-story projecting bay with a similar two-light pointed casement window on each floor, again with some diamond leading.
At the rear, there is a door in a gabled porch to the left and a two-light square-headed casement window to the right. The first floor has two pointed casements with diamond leading, consisting of one single and one two-light window. Inside, the lodge has a chamfered beam with run-out stops and a classical fireplace. Attached to the left of the lodge is a crinkle-crankle wall.
