Description

Pear Tree Cottage and Berry Cottage are a detached cottage, originally built in the late 17th century and subsequently divided into two semi-detached cottages. The construction is of limestone and flint chequers, topped with a thatched roof and featuring brick gable-end stacks. The cottages are single-storey with an attic, displaying four windows at the front. A 4-panelled door from the 19th century is centrally positioned, sheltered by a canopy. To the right is a small casement window, while a blocked window and two 2-light casements and one 3-light casement are situated to the left. Four eyebrow dormers light the attic space, housing one single casement and three 2-light casements. A 20th-century two-storey extension, which is not of particular architectural interest, is attached to the left side.

At the rear, the layout mirrors the front, with various casement windows (one 2-light, one 3-light) and 19th-century 4-panelled doors. The attic rear features three 2-light casements and a single casement.

Inside Pear Tree Cottage, a notable open fireplace is present, characterised by a chamfered timber lintel resting on stone jambs, along with chamfered beams featuring bar or ogee stops. The beams in Berry Cottage have been renewed. Both cottages were undergoing renovation during a survey in November 1984.
