Description
Maze Cottage is a lodge built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It features colourwashed brick and an old clay tile roof. The building has an original L-plan layout, with a left-hand projecting gabled wing and a 20th-century wing added to the rear. It is one storey high with attics and has modillion brick eaves. The neo-Tudor style is evident in the paired hexagonal chimney stacks. The projecting wing includes a gable end attic with a 2-light cast iron casement window and a canted bay window on the ground floor. The main wing has a similar metal window on the front elevation, along with a porch built into the angle between the two wings. The cottage is believed to have served as the lodge to Oakley House and is named after a maze that was located nearby but has since been destroyed.
