Description

STOURTON WITH GASPER GASPER STREET ST 73 SE (off north side) 6/122 The Old Laundry GV II Laundry, now detached cottage. Mid C17, altered C19. Rubble stone, hipped thatched roof, brick stacks. U-plan. Two-storey, 3- window west front facing New Lake. Planked door to right of centre, 2-light casement to right and 3-light casement to left. First floor has three 2-light casements. Attached to right return is large early C19 two-bay drying loggia with two elliptical-arched openings to south and to ends. Left return has 3-light and 2-light casements to rear. Rear of main range has planked doors within C19 2-bay lean-to porch with elliptical-arched openings, one 2-light casement to first floor. Wing to north has 2-light casements and drying loggia to gable end. Wing to south has 2-light casements. Interior has chamfered beam with ogee and bar stops, planked doors, blocked open fireplaces. Probably converted to use as a laundry for Stourhead Estate and the drying loggias added in early C19, the latter are very similar to a loggia on north side of The Spread Eagle (q.v.).
