Description
The blind house, also known as a lock-up, dates from around 1700 and is located on Maddington Street in Shrewton, approximately 30 yards west of The Catherine Wheel. It features dressed limestone walls and a domed stone roof topped with a ball finial. The structure has a round plan and is a single storey, with one narrow planked and studded door and two loop-holes, one on either side at the rear. A plat band runs at the eaves level. The building is not in its original position, as it was moved and reconstructed after 1945. It is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument in Wiltshire, number 253.
