STANTON ST BERNARD - SU 06 SE 7/184 Mill Farmhouse

Water mill and dwelling, now farmhouse. Late C17. Brick on stone plinth, with stone dressings. Thatched roof. Mill rebuilt in C19, of brick and slate roof. House of 2 storeys to left of entrance, levels split in C18-C19 to accommodate cellar on right. Plan altered, 2 rooms deep with mill attached to left, and C20 bathroom extension to rear. Elevation of 3 bays, with central entrance under thatched canopy. Stone water sill, string course and raised quoins. Moulded doorcase and boarded door. Stone moulded cross windows, those to right partly blocked to maintain symmetry and central window to first floor blocked. Gauged brick lintels with 2-course intermittent brick string over, and below moulded limestone string. Roof hipped, and left stack rebuilt, right stack removed. Mill attached and set back to left, 3 storeys, 2 bays, brick on stone footings. Openings with cambered brick arches and keystones. C20 timber paned windows. Right elevation of house has continuous string and 2-light window on first floor, single light below. Interior has main fireplace rebuilt. Small stone fireplace to right front parlour the lintel rebuilt. Stone steps, now inverted, Lead to upper floor. Brick barrel vaulted cellar. Mill now living room and bedrooms has top floor unconverted, containing bins with central walkway, sack hoist and original roof trusses.
