Description

The Brittox, nos. 20 and 21, are a pair of 18th-century buildings constructed of painted Bath stone, and form a group with nos. 18 and 22. They are three storeys high, with a gable end slate roof hidden behind a blocking course and a moulded cornice. Block sill courses run along the facade. No. 20 has two windows on each upper floor. These windows contain recessed sash windows with intact four-pane glazing bars. Delicate wrought iron flower guards, featuring a scroll pattern, are fitted to the second-floor windows. A 19th-century shop front is present at no. 20, featuring two windows and a central glazed door, with a yard entry to the left. The shop front is framed by pilasters, a frieze and a cornice. Early 20th-century glass column divisions have been inserted between the lights of the shop windows. The yard entrance is accessed via double-panelled doors with spikes. No. 21 originally featured an early 19th-century shop front, framed by pilasters, a frieze and a cornice, but this has been replaced by a modern shop front extending up to the first-floor sill course.
