Description
No. 35 Monday Market Street is an early 19th-century building that stands three storeys tall and is constructed from Bath stone. The second floor features a sill course, while the building has a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course with a raised panelled centre. The upper floor has two recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars and blind cases. The first-floor windows are adorned with solid pediments that feature wreath ornaments on carved foliate brackets.
On the ground floor, there is an impressive early Victorian shop front consisting of two windows that angle towards a central door, which has three round-headed lights supported by thin colonettes. The glazing bars link to capitals decorated with grape motifs in the small spandrels. The double shop door has two small panels and two full-length round-headed lights, topped with a rectangular fanlight. This entire section is framed by broad panelled pilasters, a frieze, and a dentil cornice, with an ornate cast iron flower guard above.
The return front facing Monday Market Street is also made of Bath stone and features a projecting plinth. There is a recessed line at the head of the ground floor windows, with sill courses on the first and second floors. The frieze, cornice, and blocking course mirror those on the front. The slate roof has three sash windows and one blind window on the upper floors, along with two windows on the ground floor, all with intact glazing bars. The entrance to No. 35 has a recessed door with six flush panels and a rectangular fanlight flanked by narrow side glazing, all under a flat stone hood supported by stone scroll brackets. There is a similar but false doorway to the right.
