Description
Wallmead Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was altered in the late 19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and has a Welsh slate roof, with stone and brick stacks. The building has a gable end facing the road and features a through passage leading to the rear of the stack. It is a single storey with an attic and has two windows. The central entrance consists of a four-panelled door set in a late 19th-century gabled porch. On either side of the door are 19th-century three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements with relieving arches. The full gabled dormers feature two three-light mullioned casements. The right side of the building has two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements on both the ground and first floors, along with a 20th-century three-light casement in the attic. The rear wing to the right includes a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement and a 20th-century attic dormer. The left side has 20th-century mullioned casements and one 17th-century two-light mullioned casement. The rear of the farmhouse has either 20th-century or original mullioned casements and a blocked doorway at the back of the former through passage. The interior was not accessible during the survey in January 1986, but it is possible that the house contains features from before 1600, as indicated by its through passage plan.
