Description

This milestone, located about 25 meters west of the lane to South Burcombe, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of limestone and features a pitched top with incised lettering on the front that reads: SARUM / V / HINDON / VII. This indicates the distances to Salisbury and Hindon. The road from Salisbury to East Knoyle was turnpiked between 1760 and 1762.
