Description

This building, located on the south corner of the road to Mere, is a coaching inn that has been converted into a shop and house. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of painted English bond brick with a tiled roof featuring half-hips and brick stacks. The structure is two stories high with four windows across the front.

The central shop front, added in the 19th century, includes two recessed glazed doors and plate glass windows on either side, supported by pilasters and consoles beneath a cornice. To the right, there is a six-panelled door and a blocked sash window, while to the left, there are double half-glazed doors. The left corner features chamfered rusticated quoins. On the first floor, there are four 12-pane sash windows and one blocked window. A hipped attic dormer contains a two-light casement window.

The right side of the building was truncated during road improvements in 1959, but it still has two 12-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors that were reset. At the rear, there is an outshut with a three-light casement and a sash window, along with a 19th-century wing to the left that has a hipped roof and a 20th-century flat-roofed extension. The interior is not of special interest. This building was known as The Swan Inn until the mid-19th century.
