Description

Myster House, formerly known as the Swan Inn, is a house dating from the late 17th century. The building features a street facade with five bays that was refronted in the early 19th century. It is constructed from local red brick laid in English bond, with clunch rubble infill. The roof is slate on the street side and plain tile at the rear, with parapet gables topped with 19th-century brick copings and end stacks. The house has two storeys and retains an original cellar on the south-east side.

At the rear, there is a late 18th-century wing that is one storey high with an attic, which has been extended to serve as stables and a barn. The first floor features five twelve-paned hung sash windows set in flush wooden frames, while the ground floor has four windows with sixteen panes. The entrance includes a 19th-century four-panelled door with a rectangular fanlight, framed by a wooden architrave.

Inside, there is a 19th-century staircase located in the cross-passage of the hall, with a rear door that has been blocked. The hall also contains a sealed inglenook hearth. The ceiling beams are chamfered and feature jewel stops. The cellar floor joists are rebated for boards, and a 19th-century external entry to the cellar has replaced the original entry that was located within the house.
