Description
This is an early 16th century timber-framed manor house, originally a hall and service wing with a cross-wing to the north-east. It was extended as a kitchen wing in the 17th century. The main range was re-faced in the early 18th century with local red brick and dressed limestone, and an early 18th century stair turret was added. The roofs are tiled, originally with pantiles and plain tiles, and were later raised and rebuilt with corner hips.
The facade of the main range features a central ridge stack, boarded eaves, a brick plinth, and a band between the floors. Some re-used Barnack stone is visible in the quoin on the right. There are three four-paned sash windows on the first floor and three similar ground floor windows, with four windows to the right having segmental brick arches. A 19th-century six-panelled door is present alongside a blocked door to the left.
Inside, the house retains relined inglenook hearths, exposed floor frames, and a 16th-century wall frame of an internal truss. A rear wing window features re-used 16th-century roll and hollow moulded wooden mullions. The house contains an 18th-century closed string staircase with some modern alterations. A first-floor room showcases a Bolection moulded chimney piece and panelling.
