Description
The Post Office and General Stores is a shop and house located on High Street in Hindon, dating from around 1700, with an early 19th-century extension to the right. The building features dressed limestone and a half-hipped tiled roof with brick stacks. It is two storeys high and has three windows. The early 20th-century shop front includes pilasters and a central 20th-century door. To the right, there is a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement and a four-panelled door with a flat wooden hood. The first floor has three two-light mullioned casements. Attached to the right is an early 19th-century two-storey addition that has a 16-pane sash window on the front, along with 12-pane and 16-pane sashes on the right return. At the rear, there is a two-storey brick extension and a flat-roofed 20th-century shop extension. The interior is said to feature an open fireplace with a timber lintel on stone jambs. The building was known as The Crown Inn during the 19th century.
