Description

A group of three cottages, originally a coaching inn, located on the west side of Hindon High Street. The building dates to the 18th century and was formerly listed under different names. Constructed of rendered brick with a tiled roof, featuring a half-hip to the left and brick stacks. The front facade is two storeys high with seven windows. Apple Tree Cottage has a 20th-century door and a bow window with fixed 15-pane glazing, along with a former cart entry. Queen's Head Cottage also has a 20th-century door and a square 20th-century bay window on the left side. Lamb Cottage features a planked door and a 16-pane sash window to the right, with a pair of 12-pane sash windows to the left. All windows on the first floor are 16-pane sashes. The rear elevation includes 2-light and 3-light casement windows. The interior of Apple Tree Cottage retains 4-panelled and planked doors, alongside 19th-century roof timbers. The inn operated until the mid-19th century.
