Description
The gate and gate piers to Emmanuel Baptist Church, dating from the 19th century, are located on the north side of Church Street. The piers feature incised key pattern panels and crossed antefixae caps. There is a later cast iron and wrought iron overthrow with scroll brackets designed for a lantern. The gates are made of cast and wrought iron, showcasing intricate scroll work in the center panel of the left-hand gate, which continues as a porte batarde, and features double scrolls above branch scrolls. These gates are noted for their excellent forging and are topped with ball head piers. The gate and gate piers are part of a group with the Emmanuel Baptist Church and the adjacent properties numbered 2 to 7 and 9 to 12.
