Description
No. 7 Church Street is a late 17th century or early 18th century building that was once owned by Thiennes and then Tidbrell. The structure has been altered and features two storeys and an attic. The front is finished in painted ashlar, while the gable end facing Duke Street is also ashlar, complemented by a two-storey and attic extension made of rubble on Duke Street. The building has a chamfered corner, with one gable end window, one window on the chamfer, and two windows facing Church Street, mostly consisting of sash glazing on the first floor. There are also two older two-light casement windows in the extension to Duke Street. A large hipped gable dormer with a late glazed sash is present on Church Street, along with a raking top three-light dormer in the extension. The roof is covered with double Roman tiles, and there are 20th-century shop fronts extending along Duke Street. Nos. 2 to 7 and 9 to 12 form a group with the Emmanuel Baptist Church, including its gate and gatepiers.
