The Horse and Groom Inn and Adjoining Cottage

The Horse and Groom Inn and the adjoining cottage date from the late 18th century and are located on Alfred Street in Westbury. The building is two storeys high, constructed of brick on a stone plinth. It features a dentilled brick string at the first-floor level and at the eaves level at the rear, along with toothed brick eaves. The roof is made of old tiles and is half hipped on the left side. The windows are glazing bar sash windows, with two windows that are four panes wide and framed with architraves. To the right, there is a nine-panel door, with the upper panels glazed, surrounded by an architrave and topped with a flat moulded hood supported by double scroll cut brackets. There is one window above the door. The adjoining cottage to the right is also two storeys and of the same date, rendered with incised lines. It has two windows on the first floor that are four panes wide with architrave frames, one similar window on the ground floor to the left, a four-panel central door with a plain frame and a boarded hood, and two windows to the right.
